Second grade is a very exciting year. The students will expand on the academic foundations that they established in first grade and improve their reading, writing, and math skills.
In language arts students will become more experienced writers and readers by practicing and building on their literacy skills which start to involve critical thinking.
In math the students will build on their addition and subtraction skills and learn how to regroup. They will become more familiar with problem solving and learn more in depth about the concepts of time, money, graphs and geometry. By the end of the year, they will start to be introduced to multiplication.
Religion plays an important role in second grade. Besides expanding their knowledge of the Catholic faith, the students will receive the two sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion.
Students will also receive instruction in handwriting where they will learn cursive, as well as learning science and social studies.
