Language arts is the vehicle of communication by which the students build ideas and understandings of reading and writing concepts. Teachers use a variety of nonfiction and fiction texts to teach reading comprehension and elaborate with different forms of writing; such as persuasive, informative, and analysis.
In the environment we live in, writing is such an important component, and because of this students must be skilled in all forms of writing. The middle school classroom strives to teach students editorial-type writing, public speaking, presentations, and research. The students are then given opportunities to orally present their work to their classroom audience.
Reading is the gateway to new adventures and an understanding of the world we live in. We strive to vary text from classic literature to new young adult texts, teaching the students that literature transcends time. This practice allows students to be exposed to themes that are relevant now and have been for centuries.
