A Quality Early Childhood Program

At St. John the Apostle we believe children learn best when they challenge themselves with their imaginations, through positive interaction with other children in a stimulating environment. Our preschool curriculum provides a balance of age-appropriate activities and lessons that stimulate social, emotional and physical skills. We promote creative thinking, problem-solving and the love of learning. Preschool curriculum follows early childhood guidelines adopted by the Archdiocese of Newark.

Pre K 3 Overview

The Pre K3 program at St. John the Apostle School nurtures children’s curiosity about learning through hands-on experiences. Children are introduced to circle time and small group activities including music, movement, calendar, weather, math, alphabet and story-time. Throughout the program children develop social skills through imaginative play. Spiritual growth is developed through stories and special activities .

Note: Pre-K requires children to be potty-trained prior to the start of the school year.

Saint John the Apostle School’s PreK-4 program promotes academic learning, individual growth and character development in a safe, nurturing environment.  Each Pre-K4 class is staffed with two teachers.  Both full day and half options are available to families.

We are committed to making your child’s experience a successful and positive one which will lead to independence and self-confidence. Teachers work on cognitive development through playing independently and with instructor-directed activity.  Each classroom features hands on activities such as coloring, painting, playdough and blocks.  Teachers also integrate mathematics and reading skills in play-based activities.   Students participate in calming exercising which help promote self-regulation.  Pre-K students visit with the music teacher weekly.

Please note: Pre-K requires children to be potty-trained prior to the start of the school year.

The Saint John the Apostle Kindergarten program is committed to the formation of the whole child through the utilization of developmentally appropriate activities in a Christ-centered environment. The right kindergarten experience can do wonders in helping children discover their best selves. Saint John the Apostle School provides the ideal combination of progressive curricula, spiritual guidance, dedicated certified staff and nurturing environment. Learning oriented play, field trips and holiday activities are held throughout the year to promote social and academic growth. In Kindergarten students participate in weekly Technology, Art, Music, Gym and World Language classes.
