NURSERY: Our Nursery program offers three year olds the opportunity to begin to develop socially and spiritually while fostering their independence.

PRE-K: Recognizing the importance of the formative years, the pre-school program offers a series of learning experiences which foster cultural enrichment as well as school readiness. All of these experiences lend themselves to cognitive, spiritual, and physical growth of the young child.

KINDERGARTEN through GRADE THREE: Classrooms are self-contained for the major subjects with the exception of Art, Computer Science, Music and Physical Education which are taught by special teachers.

GRADE FOUR and FIVE: A departmental approach is used for Math, Social Studies, Language Arts, and Science. Art, Computer Science, Music, Physical Education, and Health are taught by special teachers, while Religion, Spelling, Reading, and Penmanship are taught by homeroom teachers.

GRADE SIX, SEVEN, and EIGHTH: All subjects are taught by departmentalized teachers. Students are homogeneously grouped for Math in Grade 7 and 8.

COMPUTER SCIENCE: Computer competency, keyboarding, word processing, data base management, and telecommunications are offered. Students in Grade 5 - 8 are taught as a cycle course. Students K - 4 receive instruction once a week for a full year.

SPANISH: All students will receive Spanish instruction. Grade K - 4 receive instruction through a video series. Grade 5 - 8 receive instruction with a teacher.

FAMILY LIVING: A Family Living Program is part of the Religious Studies curriculum for Grade 1 - 8.

FINE ARTS: The Fine Arts department of St. John the Apostle School consists of Music and Art classes. All students in Grade K - 4 receive instruction in Art and Music once a week throughout the school year. General fundamentals are explored through the basic elements which encourage multicultural awareness, creative expression, and originality. Student in Grade 5 - 8 receive instruction as a 10 week cycle with 45 minute lessons, three times a week. This concentrated course instruction allows the student to experience more detailed projects with greater continuity. A stronger emphasis is placed on the fine art's history and appreciation. Visual material such a slides and multimedia libraries are used for the student's awareness of the historical and current trends. Both art and music departments have computers in the classrooms containing programs which supplement the lessons.

HEALTH: Health instruction as a separate subject begins in Grade 4. Grade 5 - 8 receive health instruction as a cycle course. Each grade level explores aspects of good health and well being.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION: Students in K - 4 are presented with a variety of age appropriate activities that teach basic skills, rhythm, fitness, tumbling, and sports. Grade 5 - 8 develop basic skills into team sports. All level of physical education should result in physical fitness and new skills. These skills reinforce a positive self-image, desired social skills, and the joy of feeling fit. All students, K - 8, participate in physical education once a week.
